Traditional rulers in Osun State have urged President-elect, General
Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President-elect, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to
run a people-oriented government that could engender prosperity for the
masses and re-unite Nigerians across ethnic divide.
The traditional rulers stressed that the best way for the new president to compensate the masses for defying the scorching sun and all other inconveniences to vote for him on March 28, was to give them the dividends of democracy through economic prosperity capable of putting food on their tables and making life meaningful for them. They added that only then would he be able to translate the All Progressives Congress (APC) change slogan to reality and put an end to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 16 years of alleged economic strangulation and abject poverty.
In a congratulatory message, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Akinrun of Ikirun, Oba Olayiwola Olawale Adedeji, Olokuku of Okuku, Oba Abioye Oyebode Oluronke II, Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Olunisa of Inisa, Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Fasikun II, Elende of Eko-Ende, Oba Rauf Adebayo Olaniyan, Oloyan of Oyan, Oba Kelani Adekeye Oyedare, Onirun of Oke-Irun, Oba Isaac Adetoyi Adetunlurese, Elerin of Erin-Osun, Oba Yusuf Omoloye Oyagbodun, among others , urged Buhari to ensure the nation regained its lost socio-political and economic glory.
The monarchs also saluted Buhari and Osinbajo’s doggedness and perseverance in the run-up to the election, which, according to them, was full of blackmail, hate intimidation and falsehood.
They, however, regretted the division of Nigerians along ethnic and religious lines by selfish politicians in a bid to solicit votes for their candidates.
They urged Buhari to use his position to reverse the trend with a view to promoting and entrenching unity among Nigerians.
The traditional rulers also prayed for God’s wisdom for Buhari in the arduous task of steering the ship of the nation.
The monarchs said Nigerians could not wait to have a change from the challenges of insecurity being orchestrated by Boko Haram insurgents, the epileptic power supply and poor economy.
They also urged Nigerians “to be ready to work with Buhari and his team to deliver and perform to our expectations during his regime.”
The monarchs added: “People should know that it requires patience and support on their part to make the nation get back on track and become great even though we know that Buhari, through his track record, is capable of making things work again in Nigeria.”
The traditional rulers, however, commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his maturity and display of sportsmanship by bowing to the people’s verdict and conceding defeat.
They also commended the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega and his team for conducting violence-free and credible elections.
