Nigerian former international, Stephen Keshi and the Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF), yesterday finally ended the lingering contract
renewal as head coach of the Super Eagles with the former signing and
presentation of the former Eagles captain, Keshi to the media in Abuja.
Speaking after signing the contract, Keshi appealed to the football
federation for support just as he hoped to get support of the media,
saying he cannot do it alone.
According to Keshi: “First I want to thank God for this day because
out of the 170 million Nigerians I was given this opportunity to do my
fatherland’s job. I equally thank the NFF for giving me the opportunity.
I want to thank Nigerians especially many of them who believe I have
all it takes to take the Super Eagles to the top.”
“I want to thank all but want to say that Keshi alone cannot do this
job because it is big. If we want to succeed the job is more than what
one man can do. It is not going to be an individual but a collective
effort. I need and I know I will get 150 per cent from the NFF.
“I equally want to say that the media will play 120 per cent role for
Nigeria to succeed, if we all team up and stay together as one, the sky
will be the limit for Nigerian football. I want to tell you that this
is a new page in Nigerian football. We are going to give all it takes
for Nigeria to be up there.
“Let what happened in the past be bygone now. In football we will
lose and win some. Please, I beg you to walk and talk together without
sentiment so that we can make Nigeria and ourselves proud,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the chairman technical sub-committee, Felix
Anyansi-Agwu said: “Today is an epoch making day and history has been
made with the signing of this contract. Let me first thank the Executive
Committee of the NFF for accepting the recommendation of the technical
sub-committee by reappointing coach Keshi.
“The NFF under the leadership of Mr. Pinnick Amaju, has absolute and
undiluted confidence in Keshi’s capacity to take the Super Eagles to a
new height. That is why the executive committee willingly without any
pressure from any quarter to reappoint Keshi..post by expdonaloaded.blogspot.com
“We want to plead with Nigerians to see this as a new beginning and
support every activity of the federation and all that Keshi stands for.
“We want to thank Nigerians for their patience because we know how
worried our fans around the world felt before. We want to appeal to
everybody to allow issues of the past to remain so and look at the new
beginning and the Executive Committee with Keshi will certainly take
Nigerian football to where nobody has taken it to. We have confidence in
Keshi and that is why we have to present Keshi to Nigerians,” he noted.
On the fate of his assistance like Daniel Amokachi, Keshi declined
comment, pushing to the federation who equally quipped that the event
was to present Keshi not about the assistants.
“We are here to present the chief coach not to present any assistant
coach or the backroom staff. We appeal for patience and at the opportune
time, we will invite you for the assistant coaches,” he said.
