Police raid MASSOB office in Anambra

massob-new-logoPolicemen from Achalla Police Division in Awka North council area of Anambra State yesterday, raided the office of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and carted away belongings of the movement.

Addressing journalists in Onitsha, the MASSOB Regional and Area Administrators for Awka North, Mr. Chukwuma Nwoba and Michael Madubia respectively, alleged that the policemen invaded their office in the early hours of Tuesday, carted away their property, including Biafran pounds, documents, MASSOB registration forms and the signpost of the movement.
They said though no member of the movement was arrested, the latest police raid was part of measures to humiliate them, but insisted that they would continue to fight for the freedom of Ndigbo.
The MASSOB chiefs lamented that despite the peaceful approach they had taken in the pursuit for an independent Biafran state, Nigerian security agencies had continued to attack them unlawfully.
They said MASSOB remained a non-violent group, whose preoccupation was the creation of independent and sovereign state of Biafra, saying that was why they were visible and had offices in line with the directive of their leaders to be visible as a credible movement.
The area administrators of the movement called on the Commissioner of Police to immediately order his men to return the documents they took from their office, saying members of the group were not criminals
