Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in the South West yesterday raised
the alarm over the security and safety of doctors in Ondo State.
The NMA has also expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the recent death of one Dr. Oguntuase, which has now resulted in the lingering and escalating crisis at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.
Ogun State branch of the NMA in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Dr. Adenike Odewabi and Secretary, Dr. Zaheed Ayoola said the South-West caucus during a meeting in Ibadan last week deliberated on the issues surrounding the crisis in the association in Ondo State.
The statement noted that after extensive discussion during the caucus meeting, based on information gathered from different quarters, arrived at tentative positions, which included the following: “The cause of death of Dr. Oguntuase remains inconclusive until official autopsy and police reports are released. The peace committee set up by the NMA to ensure a lasting resolution of the FMC, Owo crisis should continue with intensified efforts to ensure peace among concerned members in the tertiary hospital. The government, police and other security agencies in Ondo State and at the federal level must ensure a thorough investigation of the cause of death of Dr. Oguntuase.”
The Ogun NMA added: “We strongly believe that the exact cause of death of Dr. Oguntuase will soon be made known as we charge the authorities and agencies concerned to brace for the challenge and do their job with honesty and dedication.
“The life of any citizen of this country is precious in our sight, more so that of our esteemed member. We shall leave no stone unturned until the truth is discovered and normalcy returns to NMA Ondo State.”
