Imo PDP raises the alarm over destruction of candidates’ billboards

PDP-newImo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the alarm over the destruction of the billboards of its candidates in the state, allegedly by members of the state security network.

The party also alleged that the state government, acting in concert with its agents, had plans to create crisis in the state in desperate attempt to cause fear in the minds of the electorate, and accused PDP loyalists of such crime.
Addressing, newsmen yesterday at the party’s secretariat in Owerri, the state chairman, Nnamdi Anyaehie, alleged that the Imo State Government had been recruiting well trained thugs in the guise of Imo security network, Imo civil guards and other militant outfits for the destruction of various billboards of President Goodluck Jonathan and the party’s governorship candidate, Emeka Ihedioha as well as other candidates.
“These APC thugs have continued patrolling various local government areas of the state, destroying the billboards of the candidates of PDP and other parties except APC.
“The latest was between Azaraegbelu and Enyiogugu, around Radio Nigeria (Heartland FM). This is contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) election guidelines that allow free campaign.
“We also wish to make it public, the use of the state radio station (IBC) to broadcast hate messages against the PDP, the governorship candidate, the Minister of State for Education and other well known PDP leaders. The authorities of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission are urged to intervene in this unprofessional conduct of the IBC which has become the personal mouthpiece of the governor of Imo state.”
