2015: Jega risks jail over Anambra PDP list

jegaContrary to the judgment of the Abuja division of the Federal High Court, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reportedly refused to accept the list of candidates sent to it by the Ejike Oguebego-led Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the national and state assembly elections in Anambra State.

Rather, the commission’s Director of Legal Services, Abdullahi Bawa, said it was still studying the December 5, 2014, judgment which affirmed the Oguebego-led executive committee of the party as the authentic one.
Justice Evoh Chukwu, who delivered the judgment restrained INEC from accepting “any delegate list or nominated candidates” from the congresses or primaries conducted by the caretaker committee purportedly set up by the party’s national leadership to manage the affairs of Anambra PDP.
Already, the Oguebego faction has initiated contempt proceedings against Jega for allegedly flouting the judgment.
Bawa said INEC was yet to accept any list of candidates for the National Assembly elections in Anambra State, explaining that it was still studying the judgment and the ex parte order.
The commission, he said was yet to take a decision on the issue and would meet on the development today (Monday). He said: “INEC is still studying the judgment and the ex-parte order from both parties.”
One is a judgment and the second is an ex parte order. So, the commission has not taken a position about the two to ascertain which of the two names is authentic.
