Nwobodo absent as son is finally buried

Nwobodo Jim N Ekweremadu LThe remains of Dr. Ifeanyi Nwobodo, first son of a former governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, were finally laid to rest yesterday in his hometown Amechi Awkunanaw in the Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The burial, which could not hold on December 5 due to the insistence of the former governor that the corpse should not be buried in his compound, finally held yesterday with a scanty crowd in attendance.
Former governor Nwobodo, who after the botched burial told newsmen that he was through with the burial was conspicuously absent as the corpse was laid to rest in his elder brother Mr. John Nwobodo’s compound.
Nwobodo who described the disappearance of the corpse on December 5 as an abomination queried the decision of his children to fix the new burial date without his consent.
In his sermon during the burial service at St. Mathews Anglican Church in Amechi, Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma of the Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, disclosed that father of the deceased reported him to primate Nicholas Oko, that he fixed a date for the burial of his son without his consent.
Chukwuma told the congregation that he narrated to the primate how Nwobodo’s children fixed the burial date and the circumstances that led to it.
The bishop said he told the primate that the former governor abandoned his family all the while.
Nwobodo had petitioned the police alleging that his children wanted to kill him.
The Archbishop further revealed that he got a text message from the former governor claiming that nobody was allowed to attend the burial as a community except on individual basis.
