Critical stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Imo
State Chapter yesterday urged the national leadership of the party to
ignore and dismiss calls by “some disgruntled and frustrated
governorship aspirants” who want the result of the recently concluded
ward congress in the state cancelled.
Describing the petitioners as agents of destabilization who may actually be mercenaries for the opposition; the stakeholders insisted that a free and fair congress held in the 305 wards of the state.
The stakeholders under the aegis of Forum of Elected Ad Hoc Delegates, Imo PDP Renaissance Group and Imo PDP Stakeholders Forum in a statement signed by Chief Peter Okerie, Mrs Helen Chukwu and Chief Ike Obasi, described the petitioners as bad losers who wanted to reap from where they did not sow.
“They never campaigned. They were not aspirants. They did not sponsor people. They merely thought that they will be anointed from Abuja as they had boasted. But the real power holders at the grassroots have taught them a lesson”, the groups said.
They regretted that the petitioners included Chief Mike Ahamba, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Senator Chris Anyanwu and Hon Bethel Amadi, saying they were misled into believing that they could emerge victorious without campaigning.
“They relied on their long stay in Aso Rock. They drop Mr President’s name. They relied on their frequent appearance on pages of newspaper and television. They took the grassroots for granted and that is why they crashed”, the groups argued.
They enjoined the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and the NWC not to give ear to the petition as it lacked merit.
According to them, the ward congress did not only follow due process, the results were a true reflection of the wishes of genuine PDP members in the state.
They noted that even if the election is conducted 10 times, the outcome would still be the same as the petitioners are known to be serial governorship failures and bad losers.
They warned the petitioners to desist from destabilizing the party as they had done in the past before they were pardoned and readmitted to the PDP.
“Looking at their unsavoury antecedents as political prostitutes who jump from one party to another it is our considered advice to them to desist from any act that will endanger PDP’s march to Douglas House in 2015”, they said.
