Director General, National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Gbenga
Elegbeleye, has sounded a note of warning to the principal actors in
the administrative crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation
(NFF), urging them to sheath their swords.
Elegbeleye, who made the plea in a chat with journalists during Dr
Patrick Ekeji’s book launch in Abuja on Tuesday, noted, however, that he
was angry with the statement credited to the President of the
Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou who said Nigeria
had become a pain in the neck of CAF.
While assuring that the crisis would soon be resolved, the Sports
Commission’s DG said: “I was really very disappointed when I read the
comments of CAF President, Issa Hayatou who said Nigeria is CAF’s
biggest problem. However, I don’t see any reason why we cannot resolve
this crisis which is not helping our football. I can assure you it will
be over in a matter of days.”
The Ondo State-born former parliamentarian also had words of praise for the continent queens, the Super Falcons.
“I am really very happy because the Falcons’ victory came at the
right time as it has confirmed Nigeria as the all round champions of the
continent. We now have in our custody both the male and female trophy
of the continent. This is a historic feat,” Elegbeleye noted.
Hon Elegbeleye equally showered encomium on Dr Ekeji, describing him
as a fine gentleman and stabilising force between the Nigerian sports
family and the National Assembly, while he served as the Director
General of the Sports Commission.
His words: “I had a good working relationship with him when I was in
the national assembly and he was the DG of NSC. Ekeji is an astute
sports administrator and an intellectual. The book he has written is a
must read for anybody in sports.”post by expdonaloaded
